Raymond Stalls
Raymond was born June 20, 1925, in St Augustine, Florida. He was discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1946, and went to work as a mechanic for Mac Richardson in St. Augustine. Mac built and owned some of the best and fastest race cars in the southeast. Raymond’s job was to install the bodies, running gear, and roll bars, and to take the race car to the tracks and working on them during the race, if needed. These cars were driven by the best drivers in the business, Bill Snowden, Curtis Turner, and others.

In 1951, Raymond and Bill Snowden moved to Winston Salem, NC to race where the big money was paid to win. Their cars won the Southeastern Championship for 5 years and won the firs modified sportsman race at Darlington International Raceway with Curtis Turner at the wheel. Bill Snowden won the New Year’s Eve race and the New Year;s Day race at West Palm Beach Speedway in Florida. These cars set speed records in Florida, Georgia and the Carolina’s and were hard to beat anywhere they raced.

Raymond and Buddy Herndon built a hot rod racer and Buddy drove the car, #XX in races throughout the state of Florida. Raymond also built a racer for M & B Auto Parts in St. Augustine that was driven by Buddy Herndon. Raymond carried David Ezell to Carolina occasionally and they show the local drivers the short way around the track in the Mac Richardson Sportsman Car. These cars raced and won against the very best competition in racing.

Raymond was married to Carolyn and they had one daughter, Debbie Lynn, and one son, Raymond, III. Raymond passed away in 2009.

Raymond Stalls was inducted into the Jacksonville Stock Car Racing Hall of Fame in 1998.
